Soccer Moms; Juggling All of Our Commitments….

By: Dulice Guy

After hearing my Mom tell me “Something’s gotta give” for the hundredth time, I contemplated her words and wondered if she was right. Does something gotta give? In these days of rushing here and there, and with every family member having so many commitments, it makes it hard to not live in chaos!

I am a Mother of four children ranging in age from 8 ¾ to 3, I am the PTO President at our Kids Elementary School, an assistant Weebelo Scout Leader, a Pampered Chef® consultant, and I have to have an immaculate house, and everything has to be organized (for my sanity). My Husband works full time and is the President of our HOA, and trying to finish his degree. The kids love Sports and have played Soccer, Baseball, and just finished Swim, and for two of my children, summer is over and School begins next week. When I sit down and inventory everything we are committed to, my head spins and I know my Computer wants to crash when I upload my Agenda daily!!

There is a method to this madness!! There are so many opportunities in one day to get everything accomplished, and still be a good wife and mother. As you suspect, FAMILY is the prime balancing point. No other success can compensate for failure in the home. The most important work you will ever do will be within the walls of your own home.

Here are things we do to balance our lives, and somehow, everything else just falls into place…

  • Sunday Dinner; we not only sit together at the table, but we discuss the week, we acknowledge each other for good choices we have made, and we include any guest we may have.
  • My Husband and I also go to dinner monthly and discuss each child individually; asking how is he/she doing emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and socially? We are able to identify areas of concern that we can concentrate on in the month ahead.
  • And finally we feel it is extremely important to plan together as a family. We shift and rotate our family jobs each month so no one gets “stuck” with the same jobs, we also like to have the kids work in teams, this is helpful in a few ways; it builds a closer relationship between the kids, and also the jobs get done faster. When we plan our commitments and extracurricular activities together, everyone also realizes what we have to sacrifice in order to accomplish our commitments, goals, and extracurricular activities.

As time goes by and as you adopt these simple routines, life does get less chaotic, and your family becomes a tighter unit, which is our goal in the first place, right?
