Self- Reliance

Self reliance

What is self-reliance?

It means, "Reliance on one's own capabilities, judgment, or resources; independence."

The high cost of inflation has made it more essential for us to learn to provide as many of our necessities as possible.  We have the opportunity to develop many talents and learn new arts/crafts which may be used to achieve a sense of self-sufficiency.  Some examples are emergency preparedness, recycling, food storage and home food production.

This is a very extensive area.  Please be sure to check out all the links for maximum information!

Home Food Production

The most time consuming but rewarding effect of having a garden is preserving the bounty by canning and freezing. It is wise to freeze what will be used in a six to nine month period and to can the balance.

72 Hour Kits

Not everyone will experience earthquakes, floods, fires, hurricanes, tornados or flat tires during the course of their life, but would you be ready if one did hit?  If an emergency requires immediate evacuation, a 72 hour emergency "kit" will allow you to be self sufficient until you can return home or receive help.

The 3 day food supply should consist of family favorites that can be stored for about 1 year, and include special snacks.  Kits can be stored in large garbage cans with wheels or divided into backpacks so everyone can carry their own load (at least until the "fun" wears off).
