Children's School Lunch Ideas

Compiled by: Shiloah Baker

This was a fun Homemaking class taught by a sister in our ward. It was a mid-week activity at her house. We made the sandwiches & tortillas rolls.

*Have a color theme day. If making homemade bread put a little bit of food coloring in the dough to make colored bread.
*Color the mayo, etc.
*Make colored cookies
*If you want to color just one sandwich instead of a whole loaf of bread, mix water with a small amount of food color. Then very lightly coat the bread with a pastry brush.

*Note* Do not use very much or the dye will come off all over your child's hands.

Sandwich ideas

*Cookie cutter sandwiches. Use large cookie cutters and press hard!
*Puzzle sandwich. Cut your sandwich into long squiggles, etc. to create a puzzle
*Tortillas with cream cheese. The cream cheese will act as a "glue" to keep it together. Then slice it up. For a bit of color, put spinach in it.
*Tortillas with ham & cheese.
*Cucumbers with cream cheese is great on bread or tortillas.

Extras

*Smiley face oranges-oranges sliced into 8ths
*Ants on a log. Celery with peanut butter and raisins on top. Be sure to wrap them individually with saran wrap and then put them in a Ziploc. It keeps them from getting too messy.
*Apple Smiles. -Apple slices similar to smiley faced oranges only put the lips together with peanut butter.
*Beef jerky and string cheese

Notes

*Remember salt tastes good with sweets. Example: If you give your child pretzels balance it with a cookie.
*Try the new glad plastic containers, they're disposable, your Tupperware isn't!
*For the more responsible children who don't throw everything away (accidentally), make them a fun fabric napkin with animals, etc. Your teens may not appreciate that one!
*Remember the love notes. They are very special. Your child will remember and appreciate them forever!
