Getting The Most From Your Public Library

by: Jaelle Kaylor

I love the library! With summer here, most public libraries are gearing up their summer reading programs and some larger libraries even have programs for the adults with prizes! Who doesn't love prizes?  Your kids will love checking out their own books and tracking either how long they've read, or how many they've read (each library has it's own system).  The look of joy on their faces is awesome when they receive their prizes; and they feel so proud of themselves for accomplishing something!

Using your library is so great for many reasons. First and foremost-you save so much money when you use your library! I went to the library last week, picked out a few books and magazines for myself, a few for my children and 3 DVD's. The librarians helped me calculate just how much each thing cost and it came out to a whopping $232.00. Wow- that was just for one week. Most libraries offer so much more than just books. Most offer cd's, VHS, DVD's, newspapers, magazines, group activities and classes, research options, computer and internet access, the children's areas generally have story time, classes, crafts, activities, puppet shows, reading areas where the kids can just hang out, and computer games that are free to play.

Moms and dads alike can enjoy the latest magazines and books while being comfy in a big chair. It's a great place to meet other moms and for you to meet with your friends to take kids to story time. Make it a play date!

Many libraries offer something called an inter-library loan, meaning if they don't have the particular book you want , they can get it from another library! Just think- the options are endless! So go to the library, pick out a good book and read! Or maybe a newspaper, magazine, movie, cd- The possibilities are endless!!!

By: Shiloah Baker
I am a very sentimental and nostalgic person and love to hang on to certain outfits that my children have worn.  Outfits that remind me of them and the growing years, outfits that were worn for a special event such as blessings or baptisms.  I began to ponder ideas on how to display or save these outfits for .
