FHE Without Children

The following are some Family Home Evening Ideas for families without children at home:

 

1. Study a chapter from Gospel Principles on Monday night.

2. Participate in volunteer service in your community.

3. Get together with a friend or roommate and play Scripture Games.

4. Use the “Members Guide to Temple and Family History Work” to start your family history. Work on it on Monday night!

5. Read the First Presidency Message from the Ensign and cross-reference it with scriptures or write down your feelings about it in your journal.

 

6. Watch a Church produced video, like "We Believe in Christ". Better yet, share it with a nonmember friend on Monday night!

7. Read "One for the Money" and make a budget based on Elder Marvin J. Ashton's advice.

8. Select a theme for each Sunday, learn about that chosen subject through the day, summarize in the evening (e.g., the Word of Wisdom).

9. Plan your coming week and on Fast Sunday plan the coming month.

10. Study the life of one of the presidents of the Church.

11. Study your Relief society, Priesthood or Sunday School Lessons together.

12. Catalog family heirlooms for upcoming generations.

13. Study a conference talk.

14. Study a Church hymn, find the story behind it and memorize the lyrics.

15. Learn about American history as it pertains to the Church.

16. Adopt a family (perhaps one you home teach or visit teach) and share a family home evening (you supply the lesson and treats).

17. Borrow filmstrips from the ward library.

18. Get acquainted with a neighbor and invite him/her to a Church or family activity.

19. Visit the Family History Center.  Set a family history goal.  Act on it; write letters, organize, check dates, etc.

20. Write an article, poem or song for the Ensign, or just for your own pleasure.

21. Reread you patriarchal blessing.

22. Invite friends over for games, a movie or a discussion of a spiritual topic.

23. Attend the Temple regularly.

24. Evaluate and plan food storage/emergency preparedness. Make lists of needed items.

25. Read journals together.

26. Plan family vacations.

27. Get together with friends. (Go caroling, have a game night.)

28. Read a book together and discuss it.

29. Go on exchanges with the missionaries.

30. Go grocery shopping.

31. Plan your budget.

32. Research schooling opportunities.

33. Do a home improvement project.

34. Organize mission pictures.

35. TALK to each other.
